Henry VIII is perhaps the best known English King. On the throne from 1509 until 1547, he was initially an athletic young man who oversaw a tumultuous period in English history. Infamous for taking a total of six wives in his quest for a male heir, he also broke with Rome and oversaw the Reformation. He became obese in later life, and suffered prolonged bouts of poor health before his death in 1547.

This is the second - a very brief history books I have read... and now I am hooked. Mark Black condenses long periods of time into a readable and enjoyable educational experience. I was amazed about how England changed from Henry VII's rule to the end of Henry VIII's rule and beyond. I never knew that King James I was originally King of Scotland. Would have liked to have had some maps included to better understand the places discussed in the book. Also, would have liked to have had some pictures of the people involved... many of these people probably had a painting done during their lives.Product details

Henry VIII A Very Brief History eBook Mark Black Reviews
VERY brief almost a historical Cliff Notes. I wanted more content but I enjoy history & it did jog my memory.
Overall, this is a good summary and flows well in most places. What makes you stop here and there are spelling and minor grammatical errors. There are a few facts that need to be checked (St. Paul was not one of the 12 apostles), and minor digression in the storyline.
This book was short for a history book but really have you a clear picture of Henry's life. I got more facts from this book than many 500 page books on him. All in all, loved it!
Brief it was. Too brief for me, but I wanted to give it a try. If you want your history in a couple of chapters then Mr. Black is for you.
This book covers the life and times of King Henry VIII very well. The period of King Henry VIII was a tumultuous one , and right or wrong - he changed the course of history of England. His many wives, his desire to sire a healthy son, and his temperamental ways are well chronicled in this book. The irony of it all is that he was succeeded to the throne by his daughters .All in all, a good insight into the history and times of that period.
Pretty concise, this book covers some of the surrounding events of the Henry VIII regime. Quite a conversion from the young Henry to the older Henry, the jousting fall/concussion apparently playing a pivotal role.
I studied Henry VIII at school and quite enjoyed being taken back to the classroom but not to the level which would require exams! This was an interesting short read which should prove valuable to anyone wanting a short but excellent narrative on Henry and his exploits.
